The O’Funnigans love a party. You would guess this with a name like O’Funnigan and they live up to it. The O’Funnigans are popular event planners and fun is at the center of every event they create. The winter months are always a bit more challenging but the O’Funnigans, Mom Myra, Dad Milo and kids Lilo and Lila are not going to let a little snow slow them down!

“Alright kids let’s think about something for the community this winter,” Milo announced one winter morning over breakfast.

Kids Lilo and Lila sat eating banana pancakes and considered their options alongside their mom and dad.

“Well, we’ve done many things in the past, magic shows and concerts and even a skating party!” recalled Lila.

“We should do something in the snow” mom Myra reflected before continuing, “What about a snow sculpture competition!”

“Oh yes!!” shouted everyone in unison.

They spent the next couple weeks planning for the snow sculpture competition. Invitations were sent out to all the neighbors with the rules of the competition. Luck was on their side because the snow continued to fall and pile up outside everyone’s windows in preparation for the big day!

On the day of the competition everyone turned out from the Woofwinkle dog family to the Whooswho owl family. Bundled up in scarves, hats, mittens and boots, each family worked as a team to create one sculpture. With small shovels, buckets and some surprising and even silly tools from home like forks and a rolling pin, the white forms started to take on shape. The time flew by as the snowflakes came down and there were lots of laughs.

“Ok everyone!” Myra shouted “You have 15 minutes for finishing touches!”

“Don’t forget your decorations!” reminded Lila.

The families completed their work and stepped back to admire all the sculptures around them. The sun dazzled and sparkled across a field filed with snow creatures and objects of every kind. The Quickquacks had made a small sailboat as a tribute to their boat tours. The McBristy’s made a snow palm tree to recreate their summertime tiki hut feeling.

“Ahem, quiet everyone – quiet! Quiet!” Milo cleared his throat for the big announcement. “We have selected our top three best snow sculptures! In third place, we have the Tailfeather family with their snow flowers.”

“Yippee!” the Tailfeathers cried out and jumped up and down around a large snow floral arrangement they made decorated with berries, seeds and bits of string.

“In second place, the Tidyshine turtles with their snow- skates!” called out Myra admiring the Tidyshine’s winning art which was a big pair of roller skates built from snow.

“Drum roll everyone…”said Lilo.

The community stopped their feet to give a dramatic drumming effect before the first-place winner was announced.

“ First place goes to the Vanderhoof Moose family for their winter camp theme!”

Everyone cheered for the Vanderhoof Moose family who had recreated their camp set up in a winter wonderland white – complete with a snow shelter tent that could seat two inside.

“We have a surprise for your all!” Lila called out to all the families.

The Bushytails were in on the surprise and began to distribute small hot donuts from their bakery as Myra and Milo followed with hot chocolate. As the sun started to set, everyone admired the sculptures and one thing was certain, everyone had fun, again.
